Dress appropriate for a day out in the cold.
During heavy physical activity your body temperature rises and the need for keeping dry and cool increases. If you're not dressed appropriately you'll get cold when you slow down your pace. To be able to enjoy physical activities without having to worry about clothing, it's important to understand how to dress layer on layer. We've made it easy to dress right with our Abisko collection, which contains garments that are suitable for all three layers, regardless of activity and weather.
Layer 1
The first layer consists of the layer closest to the body, in this case the base layer. This releases damp and excess heat to the absorbing layer, and should keep you dry and provide a comfortable microclimate no matter how heavy the activity.
Layer 2
The second layer's purpose is to absorb and transport damp from the first layer to the third, whilst maintaining the heat.
Layer one, the base layer
Layer two, the midlayer
Layer 2,5 - Extra midlayer
If the temperature is very low you might need a thicker layer that contains more air, since the amount of air in the garment decides the quality of the isolation and its heating properties. You can advantageously add an extra layer between midlayer and outer layer, such as an Abisko jacket or vest.
Layer 3 - Protective layer
The third (or in some cases fourth) layer should consist of spacious garments that primarily protects against wind, cold and precipitation, but also are heat regulating. By opening ventilation zippers it's easy to regulate and release excess heat during higher activity.Â
