Sustainability

With our roots in the woods, we are deeply aware of the responsibility towards the climate that comes with running a global apparel brand. We strive towards lowering our production wastage and decreasing the usage of chemicals and plastics that run a risk of ending up in nature.

With our roots in the woods, we are deeply aware of the responsibility towards the climate that comes with running a global apparel brand. We strive towards lowering our production wastage and decreasing the usage of chemicals and plastics that run a risk of ending up in nature.

Sustainability is one of the most important issues we face in today's society. Working with sustainability means taking responsibility for the future of our society and our planet by reducing our impact on the environment and preserving our natural resources. By integrating sustainability into our business models, products, and services, we can create a more sustainable and fair world for us all to live in. Sustainability is also necessary to ensure that our future generations have a healthy planet to live on. It is important to work with sustainability now to ensure a sustainable future for us all.

Our ambition is to choose an increasingly higher proportion of sustainable alternatives and materials when developing our products. By constantly improving the quality of all equipment, we ensure progressively longer lifespans for our products. We only use environmentally friendly water repellent impregnations, and we consistently work to increase our use of recycled materials. We demand that all material suppliers at a minimum comply with EU chemical regulations. We are a member of amfori, the leading global business organization for open and sustainable trade, and we encourage our suppliers to be certified according to BSCI for fair and safe working conditions.

We are constantly developing new ways to become better, more transparent, and fair in every aspect. From design to materials to production, we consider nature and future generations, and our pursuit of achieving a sustainable product that can last for a long time. For us, this work begins already at the design stage. We carefully examine the market demand and needs, as well as incorporate our consumers' opinions. We thoroughly test and rework our products until they reach maximum functionality and design. We do this to be sure, right from the start, that we are creating quality products that will last for many years to come. It's an important, significant, and long-term effort that we have embarked on.

ISABEL TURESSON, SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER AT PINEWOOD

– This is a new role at Pinewood where I work 100% with sustainability. I’m also a part of the product development team, which I believe is a great advantage. That way I still work close to the design team and the process. The earlier you're a part of the process, the earlier a change can be made, says Isabel Turesson, Sustainability Manager at Pinewood.

– Sustainability is very important for Pinewood, in all departments. Early on we became members of amfori, the leading global business association for social responsibility and sustainable working conditions, and in the last year we’ve intensified our sustainability work and are working within several different areas. Social awareness is larger today and the demands from both the EU and consumers have increased as sustainability becomes a bigger and more important matter.

We want to make good products that make a difference. Timeless design that lasts a long time. We don’t want to create fast fashion with “wear and tear” products, for us it’s important to have well-thought-out and safe garments. Our aim is to create a garment that will be your favourite in the wardrobe, for many years.

We tackle the world's to do-list

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), also referred to as Agenda 2030, is a global framework aimed at all countries, companies and individuals with the goal to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet from harm. The 17 Goals are meant to act as guidance and inspiration for us to change our ways for the better.

At Pinewood we are committed to taking our responsibility and have selected three global goals that form the basis of our sustainability work. We believe that these three goals are most relevant to us and our business.

Good health and well-being (UN Goal No. 3)

How Pinewood works with this sub-goal:

• Clearer chemical requirements for suppliers/factories.

• Complies with EU chemical legislation, REACH.

• Increase the proportion of products that are more sustainable.

Decent working conditions and economic growth (UN Goal No. 8)

How Pinewood works with this sub-goal:

• Continuously increasing the number of products that are more sustainable.

• Pinewood is actively working on goal 8.7 through amfori BSCI.

Sustainable consumption and production (UN Goal No. 12)

How Pinewood works with this sub-goal:

• Clearer chemical requirements for suppliers/factories.

• Complies with EU chemical legislation, REACH.

• Increase the proportion of products that are more sustainable.

At Pinewood, our production approach is significantly different from many others in the outdoor sector. We do not hire agents or purchasing offices for our core production, and we refrain from using external teams for quality control inspections. Instead, we have established our processes within the company, meaning we are responsible for them ourselves. This ensures consistently high product quality over time. Our strategy involves a deeper understanding of every part of the manufacturing process, leading to innovation and improvements that benefit both our products and the environment.
