5 Tips for a Memorable Outdoor Moment

Ditch the crowded deck. Take your midsummer traditions into the wild – and make them your own.

There’s something magical about celebrating Midsummer in the forest, in a wildflower meadow or by a quiet lake. Sweden’s most beloved tradition meets blooming meadows and open skies – and suddenly it feels personal, peaceful and free.

Here are five easy ways to make your Midsummer celebration outdoors truly memorable.

1. Choose your spot wisely
A calm lakeshore. A sun-drenched forest glade. A wildflower meadow. Or maybe a hilltop with a sweeping summer view. Pick a place that feels joyful and peaceful, preferably with nearby trails.

2. Dress for every season – in a day
Sunshine or showers? Probably both. Pack a rain jacket, layered clothing, sturdy shoes and an extra pair of socks or two. And something warm for when the sun dips.

3. Bring tradition outside
Pick seven wildflowers and weave a 'midsommarkrans' – a flower crown worn during Midsummer in Sweden. It’s more than decoration. It symbolizes love, the power of summer and the hope of new beginnings. Making and wearing one is part of the joy. Bring a picnic with classic foods like herring, new potatoes and strawberries. And pack reusable plates and utensils to celebrate gently.

4. Protect yourself – and the place
Insects love Midsummer too. Summer nights may be bright, but they come with buzzing company. Long sleeves, insect repellent and breathable fabrics will keep you comfortable. Some choose to wear outdoor garments enhanced with InsectSafe® technology – an extra layer of protection woven into the fabric. Just as important: take care of the place you're celebrating in. Bring a bag for your waste, leave no trace, and if you light a fire, make sure it’s completely out before you leave. A wild midsummer should stay wild – not messy.

5. Make memories that stay with you
Bring music. Bring a blanket. Bring someone you love – or just bring yourself. Midsummer moments under the open sky tend to stay with you.
